2010–2011 Season
American Voices, Chapter 2
Voices 21 completes its 11th season with a look at the state of choral arts in America. The concert will include works by such prominent musicians as composer Morten Lauridsen and arranger/conductor Mack Wilberg, as well as some by less well-known composers Bradley Nelson, Carlyle Sharpe, and Debra Scroggins, whose works are just now emerging on the choral scene. The concert will also feature Kirke Mechem's Island in Space based on a text by Archibald MacLeish and Russell Schweickart, the first astronaut to make an unattached spacewalk. Finally, there will be Paul Sjolund's settings of several satirical poems on love, including one by that master of satire, Dorothy Parker.
