American Voices

Ulysses S. Grant once said, "I know two songs. One is Yankee Doodle Dandy and the other one isn't." American music has come a long way since the days of Grant, and Voices 21 pays tribute to the great choral flowering of the last one hundred years in a pair of concerts of all-American music. Our performances will highlight the distinctive American musical voice featuring works by San Francisco Conservatory professor David Conte and American icons such as Aaron Copland, William Schuman, and Elliott Carter. No celebration of American choral music would be complete without folk songs, spirituals, and a touch of gospel, and Voices 21 promises to deliver with music by Robert Hunter, Moses Hogan, and William Dawson.
