VOICES XXI performs in France

Record heat wave follows

VOICES XXI traveled to France in June 2003 to present its first European performances. The chorus gave formal concerts at the Chateau Royal d'Amboise, a beautiful 15 th-century estate overlooking the Loire Valley, and at Notre Dame des Champs, an acoustically wonderful church in the Montparnasse district of Paris. The chorus also made informal appearances in both the lower and upper chapels of the famous Sainte Chapelle in Paris.

The two formal concerts featured similar but not identical programs, with the music of Claudin de Sermisy and Jean Berger prominent at each.

Monday morning visitors to Sainte Chapelle -- where Sermisy was once priest and musician and where he is buried -- heard an informal performance of his motet Domine quis habitabit in the beautiful surroundings for which it likely was composed.

VOICES XXI founder and music director Dr. Jesse Parker conducted all of the performances.

The VOICES XXI travelers thoroughly enjoyed the sights, the sounds, and especially, the tastes of France. All were safely back in the United States before the record-breaking heat wave hit Europe.
